What is TrueSim?
TrueSim is a Mixed Reality simulation training platform for healthcare professionals. It uses augmented reality (AR) to create immersive, realistic patient scenarios that allow clinicians to practise and improve their emergency assessment and communication skills, without risk to real patients.
The platform is specifically focused on two foundational clinical frameworks:
- ABCDE (Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability, Exposure): the systematic approach to assessing and treating critically ill patients
- SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation): the structured communication method used to hand over critical information between care providers
Why simulation training?
Clinical skills, especially in high-pressure emergency situations, require repeated deliberate practice to become reliable. Traditional simulation training using mannequins, role-play, or classroom instruction is expensive, logistically complex, and difficult to scale. TrueSim removes those barriers by delivering realistic training directly on a headset, accessible anywhere.
Technology
- Mixed Reality: AR overlays life-sized patient simulations onto the real-world environment of the clinician, creating a sense of physical presence that traditional screen-based training cannot replicate
- Procedural assessment engine: Tracks the clinician’s actions in real time, evaluates adherence to ABCDE and SBAR protocols, and provides immediate structured feedback
- Scenario authoring: Care organisations can configure patient presentations, acuity levels, and clinical contexts to match their specific training needs
- Cloud backend: Progress tracking, reporting, and certification management for training coordinators
My role
I am involved with TrueSim as angel investor and Chair of the General Meeting of Shareholders, providing governance oversight and strategic direction. In addition, I work directly with the founding team on product strategy and technology architecture around the AR platform, assessment engine, and clinical content.
